Tips For House Moving
The mere thought of house moving can provoke anxiety attacks in the
calmest of people. In fact, moving is often considered one of the most
stressful events in a person’s life! Not only do you have to spend a
lot of time and money packing up all your belongings when house
moving, but you may find it hard to leave your current location and
friends behind. Fortunately, there are some simple tips you can follow
which will make your house moving experience much less stressful.
House Moving Tip #1: Prepare As Early As Possible
Prepare, prepare and then prepare some more! Most people know their
exact house moving dates in advance. This doesn’t always mean they
prepare properly for the event. In fact, procrastination is very
common and will just add to your stress during such a hectic time. Do
everything you can to organize yourself and your belongings as far in
advance in possible. This means not waiting until the last day to
contact your utilities company and notify them you will not longer be
at your current residence. This also means you shouldn’t wait until
the last few days to submit a change of address to the post office.
Looking after the little details involved in house moving shouldn’t be
considered things you will “do a little later when you get some free
time”. You need to treat house moving as the important event it
actually is. You can start going through your old clothing and finding
items to donate to charity or give to friends. That will be the
perfect opportunity to finally get rid of that favorite shirt that is
now covered with holes! House moving also provides a great reason to
hold a garage sale You may not realize how many possessions you have
managed to accumulate over the years. It may be easier to sell some of
your belongings now so you will have much less to pack and move to
your new location. Start shredding old documents that are no longer
needed and make a decision to donate those old records that have been
collecting dust on your shelf for the past twenty years. You will be
surprised at the number of belongings you have collected. Allowing
someone else to enjoy these items will not help the recycling process,
but will save valuable space in your new house. The extra pocket money
will also help towards your house moving expenses.
House Moving Tip #2: Budget Your Time Effectively
Most of us are often not the best at managing our time as effectively
as we could. However, this skill becomes that much more important when
you are in the process of house moving. You need to realize that just
as it took many, many years to accumulate all of your beloved
possessions, it will also take a long time to pack them all up and
move them. Start purchasing some extra storage containers so you can
begin to pack up any items that you won’t need to use right away. The
majority of your possessions can probably be packed before the actual
move day. This will save you a lot of time and make it much easier to
transport the items to your moving truck or van. As you get closer to
the actual move, you can start to pack up the remaining items. Just be
sure not to pack essentials such as toothbrushes, contact lens
supplies or toilet paper. You don’t want to be in the middle of
answering nature’s call and realize your toilet paper is buried at the
bottom of one of your boxes! You also need to set a realistic
timeframe for the move itself. Don’t expect to have all your items
packed up and loaded within an hour. When house moving, you need to
give yourself a little extra time to account for unexpected events
such as traffic accidents. This way you won’t experience unnecessary
pressure trying to race back to return your rental truck.
House Moving Tip #3: Obtain As Much Help As Possible
Let’s face it – house moving is a very big job so don’t be afraid to
ask for help. Make sure your family and friends know the date of your
move as early as possible. This way, it won’t be nearly as easy for
them to make up a convenient excuse! House moving also provides a
great opportunity to collect any favors owed by family or friends. Be
sure to remind your office colleague about the time you helped him
move last year or hint to your friend that you have thought of a great
way she can repay you for babysitting her dog last month! As they say,
“many hands make light work” and you will learn this the hard way if
you try to do your house moving by yourself. Not only will friends and
family help to lighten the load, but they will provide companionship
during the process.
